Product Description

Naim Mu-So Qb is an award winning bluetooth speaker system and more compact version of the larger Naim Mu-So. The Mu-So Qb (pronounced "cube" owing to its cubic design) is a true feat of sound engineering. Easy control and simple connectivity, Mu-so Qb offers a remarkeable 300 watts to unleash your music with a sound defiant of its compact footprint.

Mu-so Qb shares the same DNA as the original award winning Naim Mu-so music system, all intuitively crafted into a compact and stylish cubic design.

Like its larger brother, it too can be customised with optional coloured grilles. Supplied as standard with a black grille, you can order a Burnt Orange, Vibrant Red or Deep Blue grille separately (£49.95).

Please note: the iPad Mini and phone shown in some photos are not included!

Easy to use

Its advanced in design, yet very simple to use and its advanced connectivity will unleash your digital music, wherever it’s stored. Connect Mu-so Qb to a network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi to open up a world of music.

Choices comprise Spotify Connect, TIDAL, UPnP Airplay, Bluetooth/aptX, analogue and digital inputs, Internet radio, USB as well as Apple or Android App for full control. Virtually, everything you can request, all with the addition of Naim sound quality!

Multi Room Capability

Mu-so Qb can be combined with a second unit or with the full size Naim Mu-so system to stream music in various rooms, for the greatest multiroom experience. Pause and contemplate for a moment - this is the first offering from the flagship Naim brand for multi room audio! To say we're excited about this is a huge understatement. Multi room Mu-So with all of the connectivity selections described above means you now have an excellent solution for an alternative multi room system. Just synchronise the units to perform the same song beat-for-beat in up to a choice of five rooms.

Components tailored for Qb

To achieve that unique Naim sound in such a compact enclosure, the engineers had to investigate every component and tweak speaker angles by the minutest of fractions. It resulted in an arrangement of five drivers, offset flawlessly to produce a left-right dispersion discrepancy.

Mu-so Qb uses a distinct configuration of seven bespoke speaker drivers – 1 x active bass, 2 x passive bass, 2 x mid-range and 2 x tweeters. Each is controlled individually by the DSP for complete accuracy. Tweeters and microfibre domes are of the greatest quality, while its mid drivers have rare earth magnets and copper capped poles for even more precision. And for low frequencies, Naim fitted two pistonic passive bass radiators that function beside a custom-made woofer.

Great Amplification

With each of the five drivers powered by separate balanced Class-D amps, there is 300W of total amplification able to deliver 50W to the mid-range and high-frequency drivers and 100W to the bass, to produce brilliant low frequencies for a system this small.

What also distinguishes the Mu-so Qb, is that it is created for music performance and quality. An protruding aluminium heat sink optimises thermal presentation. Mu-so Qb is cased in a highly complex, 20% glass-filled polymer for robustness, inertness and dampening. At the core is the volume control - made from a solid aluminium ring, which runs the circumference of the touch-panel interface with a patent-pending illumination system.

Everything in Mu-so Qb is controlled by a 32-bit digital signal processor. It controls the music flow to each speaker, drawing on everything learnt from designing the best in-car audio systems for Bentley motors. It features dual EQ settings, producing the best sound quality regardless of whether the unit is placed in the room.

Design

Mu-so Qb off course derives a lot of motivation from the award-winning Mu-so design. However, it was never a case of simply resizing the original. Naim has revolutionised the entire concept by reconsidering each part and perusing every fresh material as they proceeded. Naim's engineers had to find new ways to create that signature Naim sound within a much smaller footprint, and that is what makes Mu-so Qb genuinely unique.

Through experience, studies, and fine-tuning by ear, Naim built an exceptionally sounding compact wireless system. Mu-so Qb retains all the aspects that made the original design so successful, but attributes to it, its own unique personality. The entire cabinet sits on a lit base of high-grade acrylic that is the ground for the engineering and speakers to radiate.

Press Reviews

  • 'A small speaker with big personality, the Qb combines style, substance and a whole lot of features at a more affordable price.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'Naim took some time out from producing more traditional hi-fi kit to have a punt at the wireless speaker market, and not only gained a legion of new fans, but also proved it could bring hi-fi sound quality to a one-box design... Now Naim is taking this a step further, by taking everything that we love about the original Mu-so and squeezing it into a more affordable, more compact design.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'But the real coup for the Naim Qb is that it comes with all the streaming features found in the bigger Mu-so. This means Apple AirPlay, aptX Bluetooth, Spotify Connect, Tidal and internet radio are all present, as is uPnP for sniffing out music stored on your home network for playback.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'One of the first things that strikes us about the Qb is just how powerful it is for a small speaker... It suits its rather bold demeanour, with an upfront, muscular presentation that certainly isn’t short of clout in the low end.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'While the bass might steal the show in the sonic signature, its solidity rubs off on the midrange and treble too. Vocals are clean and focused, while the high-end sounds open and composed – there’s no hint of hardness here.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'The Qb keeps up at every change of tempo and makes rhythmic sense of manic riffs that lesser speakers would stumble over. It’s a masterclass in timing, and it’s this that really makes the Qb character one to fall in love with. Its bold, upfront sound may well grab your attention, but the punchy precision and rhythmic know-how holds it from there on in.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)

  • 'It complements the Mu-so’s slightly more refined sound with one that’s a touch more mainstream in its balance, packing a punch in the low end and delivering a real sense of presence and solidity... if the budget is there, there’s no doubt the Qb should be on top of your consideration list.' (What Hi-Fi Magazine February 2016)
